USA Swimming announced late Thursday that University of Virginia swimming coach Todd DeSorbo will be the head coach of the U.S. women’s swim team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

DeSorbo, whose UVA women’s teams have captured the last three NCAA championships, served as an assistant coach with the U.S. women’s swimming team at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He and University of Florida coach Anthony Nesty, who will lead the men’s U.S. Olympic team in 2024, served as head coaches for the U.S. team at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, where American swimmers earned 45 medals – the most medals ever awarded at a world championship, surpassing the previous U.S. record of 38. 

As an assistant coach at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, DeSorbo coached four of his then-UVA swimmers to 18 total medals. At the 2022 world championships, DeSorbo’s American women’s squad won 23 medals, nine of which were claimed by UVA swimmers.

“I’m excited to be leading Team USA next summer in Paris,” DeSorbo said. “I’m looking forward to working with Anthony and the rest of the USA Swimming staff to help the athletes perform at the highest level in Paris.”
