The University of Virginia announced Tuesday that the deadline for admitted first-year undergraduate students to submit an affirmative reply has been extended by two weeks to May 15 for the fall 2024 enrollment cycle.
The decision follows a late January statement from the U.S. Department of Education, indicating institutions of higher education would not begin receiving student financial aid information from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, until mid-March, which in turn causes delays in formulating financial aid packages – often an important consideration for those choosing between schools. Extensive changes by the U.S. Department of Education to simplify the FAFSA contributed to this year’s delay.
“We’re grateful to all the students who are thinking about joining us, and we don’t want any of them to feel that the problems with the FAFSA will keep them from doing so,” Greg Roberts, dean of admission, said. “We hope this change in our reply deadline will relieve at least some of the anxiety students and their loved ones may be feeling.”
