UVA extends 2,000 offers in final round, capping historic admissions year

The University of Virginia made nearly 2,000 offers to applicants in its final admission round on Friday, bringing the total number of offers to first-year students to a historic high of 10,287.

The Office of Admission on Friday extended 1,895 invitations to aspiring members of the Class of 2030 in its regular decision cycle. Nearly 500 of those were to in-state students. Almost 400 offers went to students who were deferred from early decision and early action. Overall, UVA has offered admission to 4,317 Virginians and 5,970 out-of-state students.

“We are deeply grateful to every student who applied to the University of Virginia this year,” said Greg Roberts, dean of admission. “The strength and thoughtfulness of the applicant pool were extraordinary, and the record number of applications made our work both inspiring and challenging.

“As we shape the first‑year class, the weeks ahead are focused on helping admitted students discover what life at UVA is truly like,” he said. “From our Days on the Lawn open houses to virtual programs, admitted‑student tours, social media takeovers and celebratory events in high schools and communities across Virginia and around the world, we are committed to creating opportunities for students to engage with UVA wherever they may be.”

Undecided students are encouraged to attend one of four , daylong events featuring the Cavalier Marching Band, UVA leaders and Grounds tours. Sessions are April 10, 13, 18 or 20. Students can register using the instructions in their email or in the MyUVA Applicant Portal.

About 8,600 students were placed on . Virginia residents on the College of Arts & Sciences’ waiting list may spend one year at before automatically transferring to the University in Charlottesville by completing 30 transferable credits with a 3.0 GPA. Choosing this option keeps students on the UVA waiting list.

have until May 1 to accept their offer of admission. UVA aims to enroll 3,995 students in the Class of 2030, roughly two-thirds of whom will be from Virginia. A record-breaking 82,118 people applied to the class.
