UVA admits record number of students in early action round

The University of Virginia has offered admission to the largest swath of Class of 2030 candidates in its early action admission cycle.

Approximately 57,500 students applied, with the Office of Admission inviting 7,151 students to join UVA in notifications delivered Friday evening, according to preliminary data.

Nearly 13,500 Virginians applied in this, the second of three phases of admission, with 3,071 receiving offers of admission. More than 44,000 out-of-state students applied; the University delivered admission offers to 4,080 of them.

The Office of Admission said 8,480 students will be deferred to 鶹ƽ third and final admission cycle, regular action. Decisions for that group will be delivered by April 1.

“Applying to college requires both commitment and courage, and we are thankful to every student who applied to UVA in our early action round,” Dean of Admission Greg Roberts said. 

“We appreciate the care and effort applicants put into sharing their stories and the faith they placed in our admission process.”

More than 82,000 students have applied to join 鶹ƽ Class of 2030, which represents a 27% increase over last year’s record high.

The majority of successful Class of 2030 early action applicants – 5,261 – were offered admission to 鶹ƽ largest school, the College of Arts & Sciences. The School of Engineering and Applied Science welcomed 1,604 students. The School of Architecture offered admission to 133 people. and the School of Nursing admitted 81 students. 鶹ƽ Department of Kinesiology offered admission to 72 students.

In December, UVA admitted 1,225 students in the early decision admission phase, meaning those applicants commit to enrolling if they are extended offers. Students admitted during the early action and regular decision stages have until May 1 to confirm their enrollment.
