A brain cancer discovery from the has made it into the Sweet 16 of STAT Madness, a bracket tournament seeking to determine last year’s biggest biomedical advance.
The public will ultimately determine the winner, and in the Sweet 16 is open online through 11:59 p.m. Thursday. (It’s not necessary to complete the entire bracket, and people can vote each day.)
The UVA contender, from the lab of Hui Li, identifies the gene responsible for one of the deadliest cancers, glioblastoma. The discovery offers a promising new treatment target for a cancer that is often fatal within a year of diagnosis.
