News in brief: UVA launches first ‘Hoos Unplugged’ week to promote digital well-being

This week, the University of Virginia is hosting its first-ever tech-free event, designed to help students unplug and be present.

 will feature puppy yoga, live music, festivals and phone-free activities.

Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., UVA President Scott Beardsley will participate in “Eat to Thrive,” a cooking demonstration at the Observatory Hill Dining Room featuring dishes that support cognitive health.

On Wednesday at 6 p.m., Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy professor Tim Laseter and media studies professor Siva Vaidhyanathan will offer their perspectives on the question: “Should AI be banned in higher ed?” Students must , to be held in the Lower West Oval Room of the Rotunda.

The digital well-being week of events concludes Friday with a field day at Madison Bowl, with Spikeball, cornhole and more.
