Money Magazine has given the , its highest score, in its new “Best Colleges Ranking.”
“Known as a ‘public Ivy,’ the University of Virginia offers in-state students a top-notch education at a reasonable price,” the news outlet wrote. “The icing on the cake? UVA is the only U.S. college where students hang out and study inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to a gorgeous campus designed by University founder Thomas Jefferson.”
To calculate its score, Money examined more than 700 four-year colleges based on the value they provide to students. It measured schools using 25 data points, including graduation rates, the net price of a degree, student debt and alumni earnings. Rather than assigning a numerical rank, Money began grouping colleges into star ratings in 2023 to reflect their overall performance.
UVA is one of 42 schools that achieved a five-star ranking this year, including Harvard University, Yale University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Since Money adopted its star-rating system, UVA has earned either 4.5 or 5 stars every year – receiving the publication’s highest rating in 2023 and again this year.
