Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett will visit the University of Virginia next month, making her the third justice to speak on Grounds in a year.
The Karsh Institute of Democracy and UVA School of Law’s Karsh Center for Law and Democracy will host Barrett in a conversation about her new book, “Listening to the Law: Reflections on the Court and Constitution,” on Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Culbreth Theatre. is open.
Barrett’s visit comes one year after Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson spoke at Old Cabell Hall on an invitation from the Law School, and five months after Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., accepted a Jefferson Medal in the Rotunda Dome Room.
Barrett, nominated by President Donald Trump, was confirmed as an associate justice in 2020. She received her undergraduate degree from Rhodes College in 1994 and a law degree from Notre Dame Law School in 1997.
In her book, Barrett “lays out her role (and daily life) as a justice, touching on everything from her deliberation process to dealing with media scrutiny,” according to publisher Penguin Random House.
