Arts on the Hill, the annual series of music and performances held at President Jim Ryan’s home on Carr’s Hill, took a wildly popular turn for its most recent gig. In a social media announcement that ignited University of Virginia students, Ryan announced last week that the popular indie rock group Mt. Joy would perform at Arts on the Hill on Friday afternoon. After a surge of registrations for a ticket lottery, about 100 lucky students won spots for the intimate performance. Many of those who didn’t win tickets didn’t lose out; they already were planning to see Mt. Joy in concert Saturday night at Charlottesville’s Ting Pavilion.
