An all-time great at the University of Virginia is now being recognized among college footballâs all-time greats.
Herman Moore, a star receiver for the Cavaliers from 1988 to 1990 before embarking on a standout professional career, is part of the 2026 class of inductees for the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame. The ceremony takes place Dec. 8 in Las Vegas.
Moore becomes the sixth Wahoo player to be elected and the ninth UVA figure overall, including coaches Earle âGreasyâ Neale, Frank Murray and George Welsh.
Moore contributed to some of Welshâs best teams, including the 1990 squad that rose to a No. 1 national ranking for the first time in program history. Moore left UVA as the schoolâs all-time leader in career receiving yards (2,504), receiving touchdowns (27) and 100-yard receiving games (eight). In 1990, he earned first-team All-America honors and finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Moore, whose No. 87 jersey is retired at Virginia, went on to a decorated NFL career, making four Pro Bowls with the Detroit Lions.
Congratulations to our own on being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 đ„ đ¶âïžđ·

Announcer: Now lofts one into the end zone ⊠caught! Herman Moore! Touchdown, UVA!
The Danville native graduated with a rhetoric and communications studies degree from the University. In a January 2025 interview with UVA Today, Moore said conquering the Universityâs academic rigor remains an accomplishment he cherishes today as a successful businessman in Detroit.
âIt showed me that Iâm capable of everything,â Moore said. âI struggled in high school, but yet I could go to such a prestigious school like Virginia and excel in academics.
âIt showed me that everythingâs possible. From there, thereâs not a challenge that I face or come across with a pessimistic attitude. Itâs just a matter of, âAm I willing to commit?â and âAm I willing to apply myself to see this through?ââ
