When Joanne Lee first came to the University of Virginia as a first-generation student from a low-income background, she initially felt overwhelmed by what it took to succeed. She found a support system in other members of the first-gen community and now she helps prospective high school juniors see that they can belong at UVA with Hoos First Look.
