If you're interested in data science, fundamentally, that means you're interested in helping people solve problems. You're interested in collecting and using data to help people solve problems. And that's where I'd encourage someone interested in data sciences, think about what it is that you would like to do, what kinds of problems are motivating to you? What things are the things that are challenging, that you see out there as being extremely important and that you would like to dedicate yourself to helping to solve?

And then think about the kinds of data that would be useful in addressing those problems, and the ways in which that data might be used to answer the questions. Those are also the kinds of things that you can do to start getting involved in data science. And get yourself to a level where you're appreciating the impacts that data science can have.
